Aurora’s already getting some pretty silly nicknames in our house. I knew from day one that her official nickname would be Rora, and for the first month of her life we pretty much stuck with that. Once she started smiling, I began calling her Smiley Magee and Chuck started calling her Smiley Jones. Then I started calling her Rora Roo (meant to be short for Aurora Ruth), which just turned into Rora Rooster. Now we’re both calling her Rora Rooster, and it’s cracking me up!
Here she is, concentrating on standing up. She's got strong little legs!

Gotta love the nickname! Lets see Cameron is also known as...Cam, C, Camster, Cammy, wah-mrin snicklefritz( my mom gave him this one not sure why) then we shortened it to fritz.
Zeland we call Mr Z, baby Z, little fritz and I think that is it so far.
Speaking of names, I don't recall reading how you selected the name, "Aurora Ruth"??
We have nicknames for everything, including our computers, Delbert & Sonny (Dell & Sony). Our cars are A-Bird & Roadrunner for my auto, and Bamboo & RX for John's. Our Apple Ipod Touch is "Apple".
John is the Chief Duck (who keeps the ducks fed on our pond), I'm the Chief Bird. Nancy (Aurora's grandma) is Sister Duck.
So much for Cheezy names from Cheezland.
Aurora is a name I've had in mind for awhile. I think it has a similar vibe to my name. I didn't know many other Amber's growing up, and I doubt she'll know many Aurora's (though I've had several friends tell me that was on thier list if they ever have a daughter).
Ruth is a good family name. On the Wadey side, Chuck has a Grandma Ruth and an Aunt Ruthie. Rora happens to look a lot like them, so it's fitting! My mom has an Aunt Ruth, and it just happens that Steve's mom was also named Ruth.
I guess with all that said, it just felt like the right name. She's just a little Rora Rooster!
Oh, and I also call Tater Piggy, Pinky, and Pinkerton.
Julia, you make me wish your mom could watch Aurora... I'd love to hear what nicknames she might come up with next!!!
I know I had nicknames for Chuck, but I can't think of them all. One that I do remember was Charlie Sweepie (because he used to sweep the floor as he crawled along)and somehow that mutated into Sweet Pea.
Unfortunately I don't remember any for Andrew. That may come to me later. Nancy
We have had lots of nicknames for our cats. Just a few of them:
Puss Cat, Pusser, Miss Pris, Snigglepuss
There is one we use a lot but it slips my mind now. When it comes to me I will write again. Nancy
Our dogs seldom get claled by thier official names (Hank and Brazos) instead they usually get some combination of the following key nickname variables:
- Stink
- Butt
- Man
- Mr
- Handsome
- Baby
- Boy
- Pants
Examples:
- Stinky butt
- Stinky man baby
- Hanky pants
- Stinky pants
- Baby man
- Mr Man
- Handsome baby butt
And sometimes we squish their names into those key words. Examples:
- Hankyman, Hankypants, hankybutt, hankers
- Brazzieman, brazzers, brazzieboy, brazman, brazbutt
Yeah, we're freaks. PS- Sunday breakfast was so good!!
Hansen's nick name is Hamster. When our neighbor Chase (now like 14) was just a little kid and Hansen was just a baby, Chase would come up and make Hansen smile...he would say in is cute little kid voice, "Hamstow is always happy because he is a wodent". Hamster just stuck, at least for his family, Hansen does not let peers call him Hamster.
I am still thinking what nicknames we had for Andrew. I still can't think of any, but other people tried a few. Aunt Olga liked to call him "AJ." In high school "Drew" became popular with a few friends. He never did like "Andy" so anyone who tried that one was quickly set right. It's always been "Andrew."
I finally thought of the cat nickname I use a lot--"Mama's Sweetest Puddist. Nancy
